Flash Web Design
Can we do it? Of course we can!
Recently, web designers from coast to coast have been raving about flash. Flash is a software developed by Macromedia, now Adobe. It is used to display animations, navigational interfaces, and graphics in a website. Many web designers like to use flash because it is very visually attractive and entertaining to the visitors.
Pros and Cons of Flash Web Design
What most fail to consider are the cons of producing a website using flash. Because flash based websites are not rich in content they are usually hard to find by search engines. So if you are building a website which you intend to optimize using search engines, limit flash on some parts of your website.
According to a survey, visitors usually stay in a website for an average of 30 seconds. Your visitors would need to find what he/she is looking for in the shortest possible time. Keep in mind that flash based websites often tend to have a higher loading time. A key point for consideration is, who is your target market? Are you a business to business organization or is your main avenue business to consumer? Residential homeowners tend to have a slower load time which may require a simple loading site without flash.
The bottom line is, if it is very important to impress visitors with visual presentations, then flash is a must. But if you need more visibility on the web, go for a simple content based website.
